LAMENESS COURSE OUTLINE:
SESSION 1
Monday 16th December 2019 – 1pm to 4pm
An interactive theory session at the practice in Quedgeley covering:
- Foot anatomy
- Form and function – how the anatomy functions especially around calving
- Identifying lameness – Mobility Scoring cows
- Basic foot lesions – description, identification and treatment approaches
- Horn defects – ulcers and white line lesions
- Skin conditions – digital dermatitis and interdigital dermatitis
- Joint lesions – a brief review of chronic joint problems
- Risk factors in lameness
- Foot trimming Skills – trimming approach and health and safety
SESSION 2
Wednesday 18th December 2019 – 9am to 1pm
On farm practical training by kind permission of John, Ed and Tom Burcher
Puckpool Farm High Street Arlingham Gloucester GL2 7JN
This session will include:
- Lifting and securing feet safely for trimming in a crush
- Trimming demonstrations of live cows with Rich Jones Diploma holder NACFT foot trimmer
- Trimming training for each candidate on abattoir feet to allow trimming practice and block application with a vet
The course will be limited to 8 delegates
Please bring waterproofs and wellingtons suitable for trimming and disinfecting to the farm practical day.
The cost will be £175 + VAT per person for the two days training
